Over two hundred years ago, a covert expedition shadowing Lewis and Clark disappeared into the wilderness of Central Idaho. Now, seven anthropology students and their professor vanish in the same area. The key to finding them lies in an ancient secret, one involving alchemy, gold, and immortality...a secret that men throughout history have sought to unveil.
Michael Rempart is a brilliant archeologist whose colorful and controversial career has earned him admiring fans and implacable foes, but he is plagued by a troubling sense of the supernatural and a mysterious spiritual intuitiveness. Joining Rempart in this adventure are a CIA consultant on paranormal phenomena, a washed-up local sheriff, and a former scholar of Egyptology. All must overcome their personal demons as they attempt to save the students and, ultimately, the world.

All hope is gone. Evil is victorious.
In the time I have remaining I will, herewith, impart a tale so filled with Dread and Terror that my heart overflows with immeasurable Sorrow to tell it. Review
Joanne Pence's highly enjoyable paranormal novel...narrates a story of occult secrets centuries old and mortally dangerous to explore, all focusing on the granite wildness of central Idaho [and] confronting the coldest of all mysteries--Death itself.
An intriguing blend of history, action-adventure, religious speculation, alchemy (theoretical, philosophical, and practical), and horror, with occasional touches of psychological thriller and romance, Ancient Echoes is a well-crafted tale designed to entertain and perhaps even enlighten.
Highly recommended.

Tedious Echoes
By totem
The plot of this book is a little sluggish & repetitive (-you've seen one group disappear between the pillars, you've seen 'em all-) and erupts in a couple of tacked-on, heartfelt conversations in which characters suddenly divulge their tormented pasts with just pages to go. It's a weird jumble of history, fantasy, science fiction, pathos, shoot-outs... It also seems that too many characters become interchangeable, and they are so poorly fleshed out that they evoke very little sympathy, empathy or even interest. I respect the amount of work she must have put into this book: keeping track of all the overlapping timelines, the historical elements, the Egyptian influence, the alchemy background, the terrain, etc. must have required research & organization, and I appreciate the creative story, but it just doesn't seem to hang together well. She jumps back & forth from shoot 'em up scenes to wistful philosophizing; a book needs to know what it is before it can be that thing. Proofreading would also be helpful: words are left out, there are poor sentence constructions and, most distracting, the book reveals an amateurish ignorance of appropriate verb tenses. I started out liking this, but by the time I finished, I was sick of things like "shuddered windows," errors in tense, and lengthy background tidbits that lent nothing to the plotline. It may be a good effort and the result of hard work, but that, unfortunately, doesn't make it a good book.

OK but disappointing...................
By Kipper Snack
This book is the type of genre that I typically and immensely enjoy which is the primary reason I purchased it. It began very well, with an interesting concept and "setup" but midway through, it started bogging down, became repetitive and frankly boring (to me anyway). The characters were cookie cutter types (an archeologist adventurer, college students, an Asian researcher/computer whiz/hacker, ex military mercenaries, a country sheriff, a federal investigator, a shady intelligence operative, etc.) and not well developed. At times, it was well written but at other points it seemed a juvenile was writing the prose. I did finish it in a few days (to slove the mystery) but it never "grabbed" me and was therefore easy to put down before continuing to finish it. I really, really wanted to like this book. Sadly, I can't recommend this one to those who enjoy well conceived, developed and executed stories in this genre.

Echoes Through Time and Space...
By T. L. Cooper
Ancient Echoes by Joanne Pence echoes around the world and back keeping the reader entranced in a world and time that is at once real and surreal. Pence creates a cast of characters with myriad agendas who come together in this tale of ancient alchemy that travels through the ages and creates trouble for all touched by it. Charlotte Reed, widowed and numbed, reawakens within the pages as she seeks answers to questions she never realized she had. Michael Rempart discovers he is more than he thinks as he faces his personal and familial demons. Lionel Rempart struggles to be the man he thinks he is. Jake Sullivan, while at times a bit sexist, faces his self-inflicted punishment for his past. Melisse Willis exhibits the strength and ability to overcome at every turn even if she's not exactly the woman she purports to be. Li JinJuan's tenacity, intelligence, and cunning makes the reader glad he's on the side of the good guys. Jennifer Vandenburg strikes the reader as cold and calculating evoking little sympathy even when the reader discovers the reason behind her desire to get her hands on the secrets of alchemy. Calvin Phaylor's manipulative and cunning nature leaves little one can like or even feel sorry for. Ancient Echoes engages the reader as it explores greed, deception, love, betrayal, and the human condition through the search for the one thing it seems every generation longs to find: immortality.
