Exactly what it says it is!

I will start by saying I have read all the reviews including reviews stating that it is not possible to encapsulate Vitamin C at home. Like those of us that use liposomal vitamin C and feel the benefits daily, we know that must be rubbish. The author graciously addressed the accusations and got a testing procedure from a reliable source, easy to do at home, to check the amount of encapsulation that your batch has. She was gracious, responsive and updated the kindle book with any new information she had.
The book gives no history on why to take it or how to take it...the title is HOW to MAKE it and it does exactly that. I am well aware that this information is on the internet but with so many differing opinions on ratios I wanted to have her book as a reference and I'm glad I bought it.

Cheryl has taken all the guess work out of making liposomal vitamin C. Very concise and easy to follow instructions. She has also researched her formula and produced a recipe that delivers results. I am on my third batch and cannot believe the energy boost each time I take a dose of the product. She has also figured out how to make the maximum amount without overflowing a blender or the ultrasonic mixing machine. I am very pleased with the investment.

Great Book! Step by step how to make!

I made my first batch last night. I used sunflower lecithin instead of soy. The color was like coffee w/cream, light beige. I happened to have a thick plastic spoon almost size of inside of jewelry cleaner that worked well. I did check the pH to see if it was high enough with alkaline sticks & needed to add b-soda but that is in the book. This morning I guess I did it right; nothing separated. Salty taste but really not bad. The batch was thin not thick. Hope I measured water right. I need measuring cups with 1 oz to be sure. I zapped a little longer than Cheryl said to but don't think it hurt anything. Will write back after a month to update.

Got non-gmo sunflower lecithin 16oz $9.99 on Amazon, also better deal on Amazon for sodium ascorbate vit C - 16oz $15.42 seller vitamin shoppe, than same brand where i live, jewery cleaner $24-26 on amazon makes 16oz batch.

A CHRISTIAN AUTHOR EXPLAINS HOW VARIOUS HOLIDAY CUSTOMS BEGAN

The author explains in the introduction to the revised (2013) edition of this book, “The book you’re holding is one I wished for many times over the years I worked in a Christian bookstore. Customers came in asking about holiday customs or how a holiday got started, and I had nothing to answer their questions. I wrote this book to answer those questions as well as I could. During my research, I discovered that many questions don’t have a specific answer. Christians have been arguing about what holidays---if any---we should celebrate and how to celebrate them since Christianity began… I don’t plan to take any sides … in any argument. As these different pre-Christian celebrations come into the text, along with church decrees for or against various traditions, I’ll present them without drawing any conclusions. What the origins of our customs mean to Christian holiday celebrations is---I believe---for you as an individual to decide with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.” (Pg. i)

She notes about Lent, “Our word Lent comes from the Anglo-Saxon ‘lencten,’ meaning spring. Christians in Egypt established the traditional forty days of Lent before A.D. 330. Today people think of the forty days of Lent as remembering Jesus’ forty days in the wilderness before He began his ministry. Forty shows up several placed in Scripture. Moses spent forty days in the wilderness, the Jews wandered forty years before God allowed them to enter the Promised Land, and Jonah gave Nineveh forty days to repent. In the early church, new converts fasted for forty hours to prepare for baptism on Easter Eve.” (Pg. 38)

She points out, “Easter symbols intertwine pagan symbolism and ritual with church customs. We aren’t certain where we get the word ‘easter.’ The Venerable Bede, an eighth century monk and scholar, suggested the word may have come from the Anglo-Saxon “Eostre’ of ‘Eastre’---a Teutonic goddess… Recent scholars have not been able to find any reference to the goddess Bede mentioned and consider the theory discredited.” (Pg. 50)

She observes about Rev. Alexander Hislop’s book ‘The Two Babylons,’ “Rev. Hislop takes similarities between any god or goddess as proof that they are all the same as Nimrod or Semiramis (Nimrod’s wife)… Once every religious system outside of Christianity becomes worship of Nimrod or Semiramis, any symbols belonging to any god or goddess belong to all… the first path ends with many people convinced that the Catholic Church and Babylonian religion are the same… the second path… attempts to trace the connections Hislop puts forth in historical documents… further research on Ishtar/Inana/Astarte does not substantiate the connection between Ishtar and Easter symbols… While scholars accept overlap between various deities, they do not consider them to be interchangeable… History does not support an unbroken line from Semiramis through Ishtar and on into Catholicism.” (Pg. 52-53)

Of Halloween, she says, “Halloween has become one of the most troublesome holidays for Christians to celebrate. Once considered a children’s holiday, a modern rise in paganism has made some Christians wary of celebrating it in any way. We get the name from ‘All Hallow’s Eve’ or the evening before All Saint’s Day. Despite this, most Halloween customs have a pagan origin. Most people consider Halloween Druidic in origin, with additional customs blended into the observance from Roman tradition.” (Pg. 103)

She observes, “When the Protestant Reformation began, St. Nicholas was among the first traditions the new church dropped. Martin Luther knew it would be hard to give up old customs like St. Nicholas, so he made a change in the custom. Instead of a saint, the gift giver became the ‘Christkindl’ or Christ Child. As an added touch, Jesus came on His own birthday, instead of St. Nicholas’ day. In America, the German ‘Chrsitkindl’ became Kris Kringle.” (Pg. 125)

She notes, “Considering the fact Christians still debate various Christmas customs, it is interesting that during the first half of the nineteenth century in America, Sunday Schools helped promote the acceptance of folk customs such as the Christmas tree and Santa Claus. While they didn’t deliberately do so, that was the end result of a curious division of thought about Christmas as a holy day and as a holiday.” (Pg. 128) She adds, “by the end of the nineteenth century, most churches accepted Christmas… many churches accepted the Sunday School Christmas tree and Santa Claus without comment. Other churches began rejecting them for fear they encouraged greed and crowded Christ out of Christmas.” (Pg. 131)

She suggests, “we know the inn at Bethlehem had no room, so Mary and Joseph may well have taken shelter in the inn’s stable. At the time when Christ was born, a stable was not a separate wooden building, but a cave. The area near Bethlehem is home to many caves used to house livestock… In many of the poorer homes, the stable was a lower portion of the house itself… the traditional wooden stable and manger probably bear no resemblance to Jesus’ actual birthplace. More likely, it was either a cave or the stable end of a family’s mud brick home.” (Pg. 135-136)

As promised, this book is an excellent, objective, highly informative summary of information about these many customs. (Although one occasionally wishes the author had documented more of her sources in footnotes.) It will be of great interest and value to those (particularly Christians) looking for a well-written, concise yet thorough summary of holiday customs.

A well-written resource for your library!

The observance of various special days is something that everyone everywhere enjoys to do. We look forward to them, plan for them, and celebrate them. As a pastor, I have found this well-researched book to be very helpful in conducting research for my sermons. The author has arranged the various holidays and holy days by month of the year, making the book very easy to use. I especially enjoyed the chapter on Christmas--so much information! Did you know that from 1659 until 1681, it was against the law in Massachusetts to observe Christmas? There is a lot of interesting information about the star, the legends surrounding the story of the wise men, Chrismons, candy canes, and Christmas cards.

I purchased the original book (published in 2001) and we have about worn it out. This is an excellent book for teachers to talk with their students as well as for families to learn more about holiday traditions. I consider this book a must have in a classroom library. About the Authors

Dr. F. Douglas Prillaman, Ed. D., was Professor Emeritus of Special Education at The College of William & Mary in Virginia. He held the Ed.D. from George Washington University, the M.Ed. from William & Mary, and is the principal author of this volume as well as Diagnostic Prescriptive Teaching.

Tom Willett, Dr. Prillaman’s son, is a former Vice President of Marketing at Sony Entertainment, and the author Van Gogh to Go: Excerpts from the Letters of Vincent van Gogh on Art, Work and Spirituality, plus more than fifty articles appearing in arts and entertainment magazines.

Dr. S. James Shafer, M.D., Dr. Prillaman’s neurologist, is the principal Founder of Vero Neurology. He is Medical Director of the Indian River Medical Center Stroke Center as well as Medical Director of the MS Center of Vero Beach. Dr. Shafer completed his undergraduate work at the University of Florida. He went on to complete medical school and internship at the University of Miami in Florida.

Eleanor W. Prillaman, M. Ed., Dr. Prillaman’s wife, holds the B.A. in Sociology from Woman’s College of The University of North Carolina and the Masters in Early Childhood Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. She taught at the elementary and junior high school levels, and worked in school social work.

a resource you need when you don't know what you need

Douglas Prillaman's journey is an honest story of the thousands of two-steps forward, and three steps back for stroke victims and those who love them. It is part autobiographical, part medical guide, part road map. Prillaman's son Tom Willett has curated his father's notes and experiences to assemble an invaluable resource you desperately hope you will never need, but because 795,000 strokes occur every year, you just might.

Should you find yourself or your loved ones trying to navigate stroke and recovery, the meticulous and extremely practical information contained in this book will help you manage the daily details of diagnoses, treatment, rehabilitation, and the inevitable emotions that accompany long term illness as well as care-giving.

The beautiful aspect of this book is that Prillaman has been intentional, allowing his suffering to become a fruitful resource for others facing similar challenges. Instructive for medical professionals as well as patients and families.

Dr. Prillaman's account of his stroke and subsequent stays in the hospital and rehabilitation center are written in language that is easily understandable,very detailed and surprisingly entertaining. It is a great roadmap for what patients and families can expect during their stay-good and bad. This book is also a great reminder for medical professionals about what the patient and family are really hearing when we talk, and how much what we say can affect their outlook.

Additionally, Mrs. Prillaman's chapter on caregiving offers many pointers for navigating a complex healthcare environment as well as helpful tips that make the daily challenge of caregiving seem more manageable.

Stroke was insightful and offered me a new understanding of the many aspects of stroke. Enjoyable to read. The medical information is presented in such a way that I found it easy to comprehend. Wish I had understood stroke better when my grandmother was alive and had suffered many strokes. Thought about her a lot as I read the book. Thanks Tom and Dr. Prillaman.

Great Thriller!

Over thirty years ago Ray Bentley was tried and convicted of murder. He lost everything...his beautiful wife, their unborn child and his freedom. Sentenced to life in prison, Ray lived with the knowledge that he was innocent and had no way to prove it.

Now, in 2010, two young legal interns - Reilly and Sailor stumble upon some information that could clear Ray and give him his freedom. However, they quickly discover this is not an easy task. In fact, it's dangerous and their own lives become threatened if they don't give up their quest for the truth. What started out as a simple intent to help an innocent man, turns out to be a race to save their own lives.

This book has everything from crooked cops to mobsters to lawyers with their own agendas. This is a fast-paced thriller that keeps readers on their toes and hooked until the last page. There is plenty of action as well as a little romance tossed into one powerful and explosive story.

Linda Sands' writing style is addictive. I wanted to keep reading and never put the book down. I hated to see this story come to an end. I'll anxiously be awaiting Ms. Sands' next book.

A Solid Genre Suspense-Thriller, Lawyers Included

This is a three-plus star book that gets a full four because the four-star aspects outweigh the drawbacks on any scale. It flows well, the characters are believable, the action is crisply rendered, and better yet, doesn't occur when you necessarily expect.

Overall, Simple Intent compares to John Grisham's early hit The Pelican Brief, and with its mix of city hall corruption, law office intrigue, grit in the hood, and with Philly substituted for Baltimore, would also stack up with a good season of The Wire. In other words, there's a lot to like here, so if you want a well-written genre novel to ease you through a long flight and possible airport delays, read this one.

But if I like it so much, why not five stars? The main reason, I suppose, is that I'm a hard grader. For five, we're talking something extraor-dinary, which in a genre book means transcending genre, as Robert Wilson does in the Blind Man of Seville or Alan Furst in Dark Star, or Cormac McCarthy in No Country for Old Men. Operating at that level takes strong originality of language and plot, vivid settings, and characters not just believable, but with real depth. As you can tell, though, I do like genre fiction, and apples to apples, Linda Sands holds her own with many names currently far better known. Let's hope we can also mark Simple Intent as a big jump for Linda up that ladder.

The drawbacks begin with vaguely attributed dialogue when there are more voices on the page than the reader can keep straight without help from the author, and with an overly sentimental coincidence involving family connections between two of the protagonists. More serious, however, is the occasionally disjointed scene structure.

Telecom engineers use the term packet switching to describe breaking up information into discrete units for internet transmission, requiring re-assembly of the information at the other end. Computers do this brilliantly. Humans, not so well, unless the packets are highly coherent, and how they relate to each other is clear.

In Simple Intent, especially as things get rolling, some chapters are made up of so many rapid-fire vignettes involving so many separate subplots and characters that even if you can track them, your emotional connection is dimmed. As a device, this certainly builds suspense and sustains action, both of which are important in genre fiction, but keeping readers connected emotionally counts for more in my view. Still, you won't put it down without going back to reach the last page.

*A procrastinated love affair tortuously building to explode like Philly fireworks on the 4th of July, romantic madness set down among living icons of lust, intrigue, conspiracy, betrayal, unlimited wealth, and murder most low.

--Reilly, the fast-talking red headed playboy whose passions and addictions have him poised on the brink of self-destruction like a cliff-diver, but who can charm anyone, from meter maid to mafioso.

--Beaumont, the beautiful, brilliant aristocrat with an exotic, mysterious past, whose sight and scent kick the legs out from under any male, and from envious women---on a quest to free an innocent man and save his life.

--Berger, the corrupt cop, a self-immolated, walking portrait of Dorian Gray, whose greed and mental disease knows no bounds. When he is crossed, he double and triple crosses back.

--Gallo, the ice-cold, bloodless don of Philly Mob, a satyr and sadist of limitless violence and cruelty. You are either with him, or in his way and marked for death.

--Fast Eddie, walking charicature of a man and slick Philly lawyer, drawn in blood so skillfully by his own perverted hand and ego that he fools people into thinking he's human.

--The Alliance: a secret chrysalis of criss-crossed and conflicting lines, drawn on white-board in so many colors that analysis is defied. So powerful that their will, will be done.

*The author Linda Sands is a first class wordsmith whose use of language crackles, bristles, and sparks with originality, power, and brilliance. Sands is a monstrous talent that can draw a reader into the story itself, and the voices of each individual character, and their destinies. Buy it.

This book is a gem

Normally, when you read books you have to wade through stories about the author's dog, cat, and great aunt Martha. This book is different. Gabrielle gets to the point and gives you what you need to access your own Akashic records. In addition, there are exercises that give you methodology, not fuzzy anecdotes.

After one day of the exercises I was having lucid dreams. I am now in the process of solving a technical challenge that I have been working on for more than ten years.

I highly recommend this book.

This is an excellent book if you want to learn to access the Akashic Records on your own. Gabrielle Orr is a gifted teacher, and she has put together a book that is simple to understand and follow. There are plenty of exercises for those who like to dig in and get started straight-away.

Surprisingly it works.

I've been working with this subject for a while now, read many books about it and watched several videos on youtube. This book is the best so far. I bought it as a paperback first and than as a Kindle version so I can have the prayer and exercises with me at all times.
Haven't found anything that explains it as well as this one. It's easy to understand. The author created good exercises for you to practice and establish your connection to the Akashic Records. I really appreciate her expertise. You can tell that she not only knows what she is talking / writing about but also does it with love. A true gem.

About the Author
Jonathan Brazee graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and served 30 years in the Marines as a commander of infantry, recon, MSSG, and air delivery units as well as in various staff billets. He served with the 3d CAG as the military liaison to USAID in Iraq in 2006 and retired as a colonel in 2009. He is a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the U. S. Naval Academy Alumni Association.

Learn to take lives to save lives

"Combat Corpsman" is an outstanding book for the readers who want to learn how a new corpsman became a combat corpsman. Initially, the corpsman learned to live with tough guys who smell, swear and curse. Eventually, he learned to take lives in order to save lives and became a full member of the Fleet Marine Force.
The book is very well written. It includes vivid descriptions of the corpsman's thoughts and feelings, and Iraq combat scenes. From the pages, I can hear the rockets and mortars. I can see and smell the bloody bodies every a few pages. I can feel the sadness of loss of lives. At the end, Col Brazee presents the memorial service in the last chapter with such details that made my eyes tearing up.

I think that this book is well written and shows what a corpsman actually does during a deployment with the Marines. I depicts the relationship between the Marines and the corpsman as it develops. Navy corpsmen are a dedicated and needed component of any Marine unit, especially the combat arms element.

As a Marine veteran with numerous tours in Vietnam, I know what a corpsman means to the Marines he treats, works with, lives with, and in some cases sadly, dies with.

This book is highly recommended to anyone that wishes to see what a corpsman has to deal with in a combat situation.

Quick Read

Perhaps I didn't read closely enough, but for some reason this was listed in with other non-fiction titles when I bought it. It is a work of fiction, and believable, but the characters are fleshed out enough for the reader to find any real attachment to them as people. Good exposition of the role of Navy Corpsmen who serve with the Marines and the trials they face on a daily basis.

About the Author

Michael Judd has worked with agro-ecological and whole-system designs throughout the Americas for nearly two decades, focusing on applying permaculture and ecological design. His projects increase local food security and community health in both tropical and temperate growing regions. He is the founder of Ecologia Edible & Ecological Landscape Design and Project Bona Fide, an international nonprofit supporting agro-ecology research.

Michael lives with his wife, Ashley, in Frederick, Maryland, where they are creating a permaculture homestead. They are building a circular straw bale home and expecting a baby ninja by the end of 2013.

Eat this Book Up!

First of all, this book is visually luscious!--a delight to browse even if you never read a word of the text. However, for those of us who actually buy gardening books in order to learn new things, it is a niche gardening book that is grounded in the emerging philosophy of consuming food that grows on trees, shrubs and perennial, rather than easily-destructible annual plants.

The book is suitable for beginning and advanced gardeners, alike, as Michael Judd gives us philosophy inspiration, rational reasons and detailed how-to's for six unique projects:
- Herb garden constructed as a spiral so that the heat-absorbing materials help extend the growing season;
- Earth-covered oven for environmentally-friendly outdoor cooking;
- Raingardens and bioswales (planted ditches) that channel and absorb stormwater so as to reduce polluted runoff;
- Hugelkultur mounds, which use nature's technique of mixing soil with decomposing wood to create high-fertility, soft, raised garden beds;
- Food forests, which produce a wide variety of edibles in a limited amount of space, accompanied by a supportive chapter on unusual fruits that can be grown throughout much of the continental U.S.;
- Gourmet mushrooms that grow outdoors in your shaded backyard;
- And many tantalizing tidbits like a column about making your own fruit-based wines.

As a gardener dedicated to ecofriendly practices, I have been following Michael Judd's work, on these and other projects, for more than three years and am delighted to see it now made available to the general public. So, I highly recommend the book for anyone who wants to push his or her gardening knowledge and practices toward a more environmentally-friendly and sustainable future.

Fun and useful book full of great photos

I would highly recommend this book to those new to gardening or those experienced. Often when I read permaculture books I find myself skipping ahead past the theory to the real examples and photos. This book is refreshingly full of color photos and real examples, while still getting across what's needed of the theory. It's more of a manual for completing doable projects. Someone new to permaculture could open this book and build an herb spiral, no problem. By reading this book, I can also see how to piece smaller projects into a more comprehensive design for a whole property. As someone with somewhat more experience with design, I find the information on uncommon fruits and tree care especially useful. The photos of Judd's work are beautiful, diagrams useful and clear. The way he writes is easy to understand and also fun to read, with humor and fun recipes throughout. Definitely check out this new book!

The EASY button (or book) on Edible Landscaping

If there was an EASY button or book for learning about edible gardens, this would be it.

This book is easy to read. It's fun. It's beautifully illustrated. And, it's full of good content for those interested in making their property more delicious, nutritious, and beautiful. While I enjoy reading and learning about permaculture and sustainable living, and I loved Dave Jacke's two volumes on "Edible Food Forests" -- books like that are not for the faint of heart. This is an entirely different kind of a book, and more appropriate for a broader audience.

This is the book for you if you want to learn about edible landscaping and see some practical ways to make it happen in your yard. You might have heard about permaculture or biodynamics or edible gardens and think they have some good ideas, but don't quite know how to get started. You might have a plot of land that is 50 square feet or up to a few acres. You might be adventurous and want to try your hand at growing some new healthy foods that taste great (like great fruits, mushrooms, and herbs). You might like the idea of growing plants that play nicely together and create a beautiful environment. You might like the idea of getting your hands a little dirty, but aren't interested in anything that definitely requires skilled labor. If this sounds like you, then I recommend this book.

If you're looking for some deep, rich, or theoretical treatise, this book is not going to scratch that itch. This book acknowledges that there are underlying principles, but leaves the explaining to thicker books. If you're looking for a comprehensive list of edible plants and the attributes of various plants, this book will not completely satisfy that desire. This book does provide a list of edible plants that are practical (and tasty) in a temperate climate (think most of the USA or central to northern Europe, where you have often freezing winters and warm summers). It does provide a list of plants that make for good "guilds" or companion plants that will help reinforce each other that are tried and tested in a temperate climate (like comfrey, yarrow, and blue wild indigo). It provides a good list of tasty fruits that are uncommon in stores, but easy to grow and harvest (like persimmon, pawpaw, mulberry, currant, gooseberry, jostaberry, elderberry).
