Loved it the first time, Really enjoyed the 2nd edition.

What a great read for anyone who is in an intimate relationship with a sex addict. I read the first print of this book a couple of years ago slowly as I was processing it along with other materials regarding co-dependency and sexual addiction. I learned a lot about myself and worked thru a lot of my own painful guilt and shame I was living with after my marriage ended. I decided to leave my husband 10 + years ago due to not knowing where to turn to for help. There was little to nothing in print and we didn’t find counselors that specialized in sexual addictions at that time. My husband didn’t see a need for him to change, and I was tired of being the co-dependent. I couldn’t make him want to change. All I had power over was making my own changes. Years later I heard of a local program that Janet and Bruce Wheeler was facilitating focused on Sexual Addiction. I had the opportunity to study thru the first print of “When Sex Causes Heartbreak” fore it was part of the curriculum. It's subject chapters is easy to read and understand I wish I had known of this book and programs like theirs available back when I was still in my marriage. Perhaps my husband could have seen himself and want to explore their program. I too might have seen where as I could change. We were certainly looking for help before we chose to separate and finally divorce.
My wish for anyone thinking of reading this book and checking the reviews is this; please give yourself and your relationship a chance. This book may give you the insight you were looking for to help yourself while walking through this painful time in your life. And for him theirs a wonderful book titled “Now Choose Life!” Janet Wheeler is the author of both and maybe your husband will see himself in Bruce Wheelers story. Compelling and filled with insight - I highly recommend this book for those suffering from sex addictio AND professionals

As an Addictions Counselor, I found this book, as well as Janet’s other book ‘Now Choose Life!’ both insightful, moving, and educational. Her presentation from both a Christian perspective as well as a psychological one was compelling on many levels. Not only is Janet’s book a valuable tool for professionals in the fields of counseling but also for those who have been impacted by porn/sexual addiction and want to fully understand the effects it has on the individual that suffers the addiction as well as those who love them. Janet was truly able to get to the heart of the emotions underlying sexual addiction and pornography, including an excellent portrayal of the cycle of shame, as well as the sense of betrayal and broken trust. She clearly has an in-depth knowledge of the foundations of addiction and conveys that knowledge in a manner that is easy to understand for the lay person as well as the professional. Janet offers hope to others through intimately sharing her personal journey through heartbreak and healing from a marriage torn by pornography/sexual addiction…RECOVERY happens!
