Lianne Farbes is a on air beauty expert and educator with over 25 years in the makeup industry. She has appeared in segments on ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox networks in several different regional markets. Her award winning blog TheMakeupGirl.net was voted best of the web by InStyle Magazine in 2009. As a writer/beauty editor Lianne has also contributed to several online publications such as Mwari Magazine, The Fairest, She Finds, TheGloss.com and Clutch Magazine to name a few. In May of 2010, Lianne was named Head of the US Edition of the Parisian social platform HelloCotton. She currently serves as a brand ambassador for Avon, Inc., RoC Skincare and Johnson's Baby. I used to follow Lianne's blog back in the day, and she always offered great tips. I'm really happy to see this book because it's definitely an area of expertise for her - she seems to know best how to pull off the natural look. Awesome stuff! Love seeing bloggers get some success!

Essential beauty tips for adults and teens

Lianne has been offering amazing, simple and glamorous beauty solutions on her blog "The Make Up Girl" for years now. This book puts together her accumulated knowledge of make up and skin care and lifestyle strategies. It is a "must read" for women of all ages who have been bombarded with false, conflicting or trendy ideas of beauty. Her simple and effective advice promotes women's self esteem and confidence, while encouraging a little "pretty" in every girl's day.

What a delight! It's advice from The Makeup Girl that I wish my mom had shared with me. I read my Kindle version on a flight last night and LOVED it. Super easy read, but a balance between basic info to sophisticated advice that I've never seen anywhere else.

Bravo Amy Johnsonkeep

I used to think reviews were written by friends of the author but I do not know Amy Johnson or how I came across her material. I do recall voting on a name for this book and threw in my two cents. When I saw the ads for the book my interest was peaked and I decided to buy it. First let me say I have almost 1,000 books that I am pretending I will read but I actually took the time to read this book cover to cover and that is why I chose the word Bravo. I feel Dr. Johnson speaks from the heart and she is keeping it real. I once told my daughter that we don't choose the book, the book choses us and Being Human chose me and I am glad it did. Over the years I have learned that it is my job to look for the golden nuggets that are for me when I am reading anything and to discard the rest but with this book most of it is golden so for less than the cost of a supersize meal at your favorite fast food joint you can devour something that will give you repeated benefits for years to come if you just find one thing that makes you happy I would say that was money well invested. Go for it. Mitch

Very enlightening !

Loved this book! Every turn of the page brought another nugget of enlightening information. I will definitely be rereading, there is so much great useful information that one reading is not enough. If you have children, especially girls, I definitely recommend reading , you will see what I mean. I had the Kindle version which included some really cool artwork.

Retired keyboardist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Jennings’ writing career began with a four-part series for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, ”Symphony Diary,” while on tour with the orchestra in Europe in 1994. That experience has evolved into nearly two decades of essays in which she shares her observations on everything from fashion to how the Internet impacts the American family. Her essays have appeared in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Symphony magazine, and various Western Pennsylvania-based publications. From 1988 to 1994 she was the publisher/editor of Symphonium, a newsletter for and about the professional African-American symphony musician.

Slices of American Life Written By Pittsburgh Native

Patricia Prattis Jennings has much to say about daily American Life – as she’s lived it in Pittsburgh and throughout her many travels and dual career, and as I’ve lived it as a Pittsburgh native transplanted to Ohio. Her topics vary widely, but no matter which essay you’re reading that feeling descends, “oh yes, I know just what she means” or “let me tell what I did when that happened to me!” She has a folksy, friendly way of writing, as if you are sitting in the room chatting with her. As her title implies, times have changed, and her many essays address a wide variety of topics. While I qualify for AARP membership and come from one era, I have a 20-year-old college-student daughter clearly of this new era who spirited the book away to her room and didn’t return it to me until she had finished it—and she has never lived in Pittsburgh but loved the book nevertheless! We all go through these daily issues no matter where we live; however, I have bought some extra copies of this book to send to my relatives who once lived in Pittsburgh. They will have a fond taste of a dear old city and they will also laugh and frown in almost equal doses over the subjects discussed. My only complaint is that I wish some of the essays were lengthier.

A Rare Ability

My experience, with most of the books I read, is that the authors are usually writing about some topic of special interest to them. But as a long time fan of Patricia Prattis Jennings, I have felt that she has a very rare talent of sensing what the interests are of her readers. Those little, but important topics of every day life, and expressed in language that harkens back to the old fashioned over-the-fence talk. Without hesitation, I give five stars to "In One Era And Out The Other"!

Daniel Jenkins. His Jazz Nursery revolutionized the music world! One cold December day in 1891, Rev. Jenkins discovered four black children huddled together in a railroad car. He had more than 500 children in his care. To support the Orphanage, Jenkins organized a brass band which performed on the Charleston streets for hand-outs. Ten years later, the Jenkins Band appeared in London, played for President Teddy Roosevelt and premiered on Broadway. Members of the Jenkins Band played with Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Louis Armstrong. Then, tragically in 1919, one of the Jenkins’ musicians committed a brutal murder which shocked America! Mark R. Jones is an eighth generation native of the South Carolina Low country. He is an author, historian, licensed guide and tour owner. With his wife, novelist Rebel Sinclair, Jones operates Black Cat Tours, conducting night time walking tours which cover the darker history of the Holy City. He also drives carriages and gives daytime historic walking tours. He is the author of four other books. His first book kicked off the wildly popular WICKED series for The History Press: Wicked Charleston: The Dark Side of the Holy City (2005) & Wicked Charleston, Volume II: Prostitutes, Politics & Prohibition(2006). An Eye and Ear-opening Read

Mr. Jones has taken a new and socially-significant look at the birth of what many have now come to call jazz, ragtime, and the roots that have grown to become popular American music--roots that date back to South Carolina's Lowcountry, in general, and more specifically to Charleston and the Jenkins Orphanage. And better yet, the author has traced the history of "America's music" in an easily-readable and entertaining style, something that many of us non-historians will appreciate. If you have an interest in the black roots of American popular music, this book is a must. But, even more importantly, it gives an excellent overview of the good, bad, and tragic life and times of blacks in the United States in the late 1800s through World War II. I applaud Mr. Jones's success and highly recommend it.

An enjoyable historical look at the early intersection of African and Anglo music in Charleston and the development of jazz.

Once I started reading, I could hardly rest until I had made it to the back cover. I am currently reading it again just to be able to recall as much as I can on demand. It's a heart warming story of a good and dedicated man and his sincere concern for those most defenseless during a time of great hardship following the War Between the States. The life of Daniel Jenkins is a testament of what just one man can accomplish for the benefit of others and all with but a trace of outside assistance from the government.

The author Mark Jones loves the city of Charleston and he loves history. In this book he does a wonderful job weaving the evolution of American music and race relations, the rise of jazz, and the invention of the Charleston dance. Jones tells the story with appropriate humor and irony and doesn't gloss over the ugly racial attitudes of the times. This book is a remarkable achievement in research and storytelling and deserves to be in every historical library.

G.L. Morrison's poetry is filled with images of lust, longing and love. Her words fall off each page knowingly, and there isn't a doubt remaining that she hasn't lived what she puts on paper for others to want also.
I'm known as a poet, but after reading her work that word is not in the same category. If I were to spend the rest of my days trying to achieve what she has already mastered, there's a distinct feeling that coming up short would be the outcome.

Illuminating poems full of light

What strikes me about these poems is their use of light. The candlelight that is "in love with your face." The light "that glittered off our arms like glass." The morning light that witnessed Matthew Shepard's murder and "didn't recognize what it had done the night before." G.L. Morrison displays an immense range of emotions here. These are illuminating poems. I love and admire them immensely.

About the Author

Polly Dement grew up in Vicksburg, Mississippi, graduating from Millsaps College. For the Senate Watergate Committee, she wrote profiles of the witnesses who testified, and for over a decade beginning in 1981 told in a variety of publications stories of the investors and entrepreneurs of the National Association of Investment Companies. She also worked for the National Commission on Children and Hager Sharp, Inc., a communications firm in Washington, DC.

Jesse L. White, Jr., is a research professor in the Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill, where he was director of the Office of Economic and Business Development (2004–2011). He served as co-chairman of the Appalachian Regional Commission (1993–2002) and led the Southern Growth Policies Board (1982–1990).

Great book!

GREAT BOOK!....My daughter is doing her 5th grade state report on Mississippi because my dad was born there and she wanted to know more about this state. My Uncle Johnnie is featured in this book and I thought how great that she could include this as apart of her report. Her uncle is apart of the Mississippi state she is writing about! Great book.....with lots of information. How great that an author can have so much love about the local business owners and turn it into a beautiful book. Well done! And GREAT JOB Uncle Johnnie!!!

About the Author
Leslie Taylor was born into a family that loves to cook and loves desserts! His sister is Lisa Joy Taylor, affectionately known as the “Dessert Queen” and the author of America’s Most Delicious Dessert Recipes, State by State. And while his mother was not an author or a professional chef, she was well known throughout her community for exceptional desserts. Not suprisiingly both Leslie and Lisa were inspired greatly by their mom and love of good food! Leslie’s background in the culinary arts has been both formal – taking classes and trainings as well as informal – the experience and expertise one can only gain from making thousands upon thousands of desserts! OK, I was sold with the Buckeye Peanut Butter Cup cookies.

There are superb and unique recipes in here. This book is very much worth your time and money.
That said, no Table of Contents or Index beyond the chapter headings. I bookmarked the recipes I want to try but I almost gave this book 4 stars because of this.

This book has so many great recipes. I tried the Dark Chocolate Cupcakes with Chocolate Mascarpone Buttercream Frosting for my Grandson's birthday. They were delicious and moist. He loved them! I look forward to trying other recipes.

This is my first book by this author and I'm in love and can't wait to read the rest!!
Andrea Evans is a dancer in love with the same boy since middle school. Cooper Davidson is a photographer married to a wedding planner. Both of them go through life changing events and something begins to blossom... again. This book made me smile, it made me cry, it had me sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen. Please, if you haven't read it yet, GO! Read it!

Once again I loved reading Brittainy Cherry's work. She puts heart and soul into each book and it definitely shows! This is a sweet love story about two broken souls that were meant to be together. It gives hope to those who love second chances. A little hardship thrown in the mix and a lot of love to find out who was meant to be there in the end.

The story between Cooper and Andrea was so well written. Two different backgrounds revolving around two people with beautiful souls, but also tortured . The story is about the process of healing, rebuilding, and overcoming life's major issues. This book is the second I've read from her.... A+++

What is Truth?

I really enjoyed this book. It is well written by a sweet lady who loves the Lord. She relates personal experiences on her walk through life, raising her boys, her marriage, trying to live in "The Word". She has studied the bible and gives her interpretation of many of its verses. Well worth the price.
