WOW!!! It Takes 2 is a must read for anyone who has known someone diagnosed with cancer or other life threatening disease. This is the real story of a family lead by an incredible woman, Debbie Brodinsky, who took radical steps to beat the breast cancer beast. The story is told by her husband, Mark Brodinsky, through journal entries he kept starting with diagnosis through one year cancer free. This author's unique ability to pour his heart out onto the page draws you in from the beginning and holds you until the very end. The journal entries not only show the emotional side but include the clinical steps that one endures while undergoing a double mastectomy. While reading this book, I felt the full range of emotions - from crushing disappointment to incredible joy. Mark's perspective as a loving, supporting husband and father draws the reader in immediately. He's fighting for his wife, for his daughters and the raw, real feelings this family experienced are shared on each and every page. Thanks to Mark and Debbie Brodinsky for this gift...I have a new perspective on what it means to be a breast cancer survivor. You are a hero, Debbie Brodinsky!

In It Takes 2, Mark Brodinsky windows us into his world where his wife, the cancer patient, is not the only victim. Part journal, part roadmap, It Takes 2 goes to the real humanity of facing the mortality of one's better half. Mark's candid perspective, love, and fierce intention resonate with hope in a story which is about much more than cancer. Mark himself is perhaps the most heroic character for the way he appreciates this life and so many of us in it...as he says, "thanks for taking the time."

Beautiful and inspiring

This book is a must read for anyone with a family member with breast cancer. It takes you through the spouse's perspective from diagnosis to recovery. Mark journaled his wife's journey and put all of his emotions out there. It is beautifully written and inspiring to anyone going through breast cancer. Thank you, Mark for sharing Debbie's story.

Crimson Worlds Novel ROCK!

I've been reading all of the Crimson Worlds novels written by Jay Allan and I have to comment here about them. Bottom line - they are impossible to put down. I have spent nights reading the stories of Erik Cain and as long as the saga continues I will continue reading them through the night till they're finished. About the author, Jay Allan, he mentions on his page that he always answers his readers emails, and you know what, he does. Kudos to you Jay. As long as you keep writing I will keep reading your books. You have a fan here in Africa.

A good one--not the best but read it

This is a very good effort in Jay Allan's series about the Western Alliance Marine Corps. My one gripe is that Mr. Alan tries to do way to do way to much in this novel and as a result leaves the character development a little thin. I also feel like the conclusion against the Regent, the First Imperium's master computer, seemed forced and really lacked a satisfying resolution.

All that being said, Mr. Alan again delivers a very good installment in the series. With this book he shows why he has become one of my favorite authors. I will read about any book he wants to write.

I recommend reading this book if you are involved in this series. But beware, that there is much that has happened before this that if you have not read the previous books you may feel lost in this novel.

Great story. Each part of Crimson Worlds gets better.

Most SF series start out great but lose punch as the story goes on and the author runs out of New plot lines and starts recycling old plot lines. This story brought tears to my eyes as I felt sorry for the authors characters. That does not happen often with me. Being a retired soldier I tend to identify with the military members among your characters. Please keep your wonderful stories coming.

About the Author
Dare Wright (1914-2001) was a fashion model and photographer based in New York City. In 1957, she used her childhood doll Edith and two teddy bears as the subjects of her first book The Lonely Doll. The combination of mesmerizing black and white photographs and simple, eloquent text made the book an immediate success and earned it a place on The New York Times Best Seller list along with Dare Wright’s next Lonely Doll book, Holiday For Edith And The Bears. Edith And Mr. Bear is the fifth book in the series featuring Edith, Little Bear and Mr. Bear. Originally published in 1964, its scenes were photographed in Dare Wright’s apartment and on the streets of New York City. All of the photographs in this book have been reproduced from Dare Wright’s original negatives that she developed in the tiny darkroom of her apartment.

I've finally found her!

As a young child I was waiting at the hospital to visit my Grandmother and someone had left this wonderful book outside on a picnic table. I looked through it as my uncle read it to me.Unlike all of my books at home, I could actually understand on my own what was going on. When it was time to leave, as it wasn't my book, I left it on that bench. I have spent the last 30 years trying to describe this doll to people so I could find her again. This was an important book to a small girl back then and an important book to this woman today. The photographs are so beautiful! Enjoy!

Favorite childhood memories...

Like "A reader from Minnesota" (my old home state) I cannot count the number of times I checked the Lonely Doll books out of the library as a child. The pictures and stories have stuck with me my whole life and are some of my favorite childhood memories. I nearly wept with happiness when I found out these were coming back into print. I anxiously await the rest of the titles in the series!

Edith & Mr. Bear

After having read many books in the Edith and Mr. Bear series as a child I was thrilled and overcome with extreme emotion to have found them again. Having two small girls of my own I hope they will love them as much as me and my twin sister did growing up. I also found two of my favorites (Edith and the Kitten, and Edith Learns and Lesson) on a rare books site, and quickly snatched them up. This time I will cherish them and hopefully I will be able to keep them for my grandchildren and great grandchildren. I've been searching for these books for over 4 years, my search is over. Thank You.

I was able to take a charter bus with Evelyn and a group of about fifteen others (mostly adults) to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Home in Mansfield, Missouri. The experience of visiting Rocky Ridge Farm is probably why I still enjoy museums to this day. It wasn't the souvenirs in the gift shop that interested me - it was being able to walk across the same floors as Laura and Almanzo, to look out of the same windows of their house and see the views they saw, and to actually lay eyes on the desk where she wrote the Little House books. How this book began over 30 years ago ....
excerpt from the introduction of Little House Search:

I was ten years old back in 1977 when a guest speaker came to my elementary school to speak about Laura Ingalls Wilder and the life of the pioneers. She was Evelyn Thurman, a librarian (later, a Professor) at the Margie Helm Library at Western Kentucky University. At the time, I had no idea that Laura was a real person, a writer. To me, I saw her (Melissa Gilbert, that is) every week on television on NBC's Little House on the Prairie.

I had been writing stories since the age of nine. When her speech was over, I approached Evelyn and told her I wanted to be a writer when I grew up. She gave me a copy of her book, The Canary Who Wants to Talk, and invited me to come visit her at the library.

My father was on staff at Western Kentucky University at the time. During the summer months I rode to work with him and he dropped me off at the library where I would spend my days as Evelyn's unofficial assistant (which went on for about five years). She encouraged my writing, taught me the value of research, and helped me to self-publish my first book, The China Doll, in 1981.

In 1983, Evelyn asked me to work with her on an idea she had for a new book. Her other "Laura" book was titled The Ingalls - Wilder Homesites, a diary and tour of all the places she had visited (and revisited) where Laura had lived. Now, she wanted to write a short description of each homesite and have me create a word search puzzle that went along with it. It was titled, Little Houses on the Prairie With Search and Find the Word Puzzles. Evelyn placed the book for sale in all of the Laura Ingalls Wilder museums.

It stayed in print for many years. I am sorry that Evelyn Thurman never got see the way that the independent publishing world has taken off and gained new respect. She was from a time when all self-published works were known as "vanity works" or "vanity publishing." Miss Thurman hated that term, by the way. Sadly, she passed away in 2005 at the age of 84. While most of her works have gone out of print, she is remembered by all who knew her. Western Kentucky University created the Evelyn Thurman Young Readers Book Award, which is given to outstanding Kentucky authors and illustrators of children's literature.

This book is not a reprint of the word search book that Evelyn and I created. Rather, it is a reimagining of it - a homage to that original work in remembrance of it. To create the word search puzzles, I re-read every book written by Laura Ingalls Wilder, pulling out words that helped give the story its overall theme. I created Little House Search in honor of the woman who believed I could be a writer. I am.

Little House word search

My grand daughter and me worked on this puzzle book over Christmas vacation. It was nice to read a brief synopsis of the book before doing it corresponding word search. Thank God my grand daughter was able and willing to help me. We had a good time working together and we both love anything Laura Ingalls Wilder. Next time she visits, we will continue where we left off. Very enjoyable activity.

This book is a really beneficial tool for anyone interested or currently going through any Police Academy to utilize in their training in addition to resources they have been provided with. The author has done an excellent job in making the material easy to follow, allowing the reader to fully understand rules or procedures that may seem unyielding. As a future CPD officer, and having a strong interest in Criminal Justice, I have taken the time to read this book to learn more about the profession, rules and regulations, that our police officers endure while they serve an protect our community. As an eager learner, I really appreciated the review questions at the end of sections to test myself over the material that I read. Overall, this legal book is a great tool to have as a reference, or to "brush-up" on any issue regarding the legal system and police. I strongly encourage that any person with a career in law enforcement, buy this book. I look forward to the next volume of this book!

I would recommend this book to any criminal justice major

I rate this book a 10 plus. I had the pleasure to experience Mr. Mota as a student during the time I was enrolled at the University of Phoenix. Mr. Mota went above the call of duty to assure myself and my team mates understood the assignment and work cohesively. I would recommend this book to any criminal justice major, or to any one is in the police academy to purchase this book. This book should be at universities as well as junior colleges. This book has work book exercises which will refresh your memory because important and detailed parts of this work book is repeated. I learned certain things such as search and seizure where you are not free to leave opposed to consensual whereas you are free to leave. This book is so good everyone in law enforcement should own one. I hope that this book is placed at the Department of Corrections Cook County for potential employees to use as a mandatory requirement for their training manual

This book is a great tool for FTOs. It is very useful when trying to overcome misinformation while training. Many recruits come to us with very poor concepts of the spirit of the Fourth Amendment. This book has a good amount of case law pertinent to probable cause/ search and seizure and makes a great reference. It is very suitable for classroom applications as well, especially for scenario based training. It will be nice to see the next volume.

Swoonworthy!

Oh my holy cuteness! What an adorable read with a droolable boy (gah... Justin, you are mine!) and a wonderful book for teens. (And YA old lady fans like me :))

First... LOVE THIS COVER! It's adorable, and sets the tone up immediately. It's a light and fun book, with its doses of deep and dark, all in the right moments that leave you going "awww" in a cute way, and "awww" in a that's-so-sad way.

Lucy is a cute narrator. The perfect 16 year old who is making mistakes, falling in love, battling with her parents, and trying to stand out in a crowd that she feels is swallowing her up. But she's a cutie, with inner monologue that makes me laugh and leaves me rooting for her to have her moment.

Justin is totally cute and amazing, and he's supposed to come off as a jerk to our leading lady at first, but honestly my hubby is ten times worse, so I thought he was adorbs, lol! He's the typical popular guy with the perfect abs, eyes, and girlfriend, but his personality is so not typical. SPOILER ALERT! Love a guy who wants to save himself. Thank you Lizzy for writing someone different!

Loved the painting during the summer. Loved Alex! Oh my gosh, give me an Alex book please!!!! He was so darn cute. And I loved that Lucy was surrounded by guys in this job, but only one made her heart thump ;) They were all really decent guys too. You have the typical scumbag, but there were a lot of other really lovable boys.

I use the word love a lot. Can you tell I just loved this???

Wonderful easy read, cute YA story, and adorable characters. I can't wait for others to read it so I can chat about it nonstop (and fight for Justin ;))

Great debut, Lizzy. Can't wait to see more.

EFFORTLESS WITH YOU is a beautiful story about Lucy, a young girl who reinvented herself after a year of constant bullying. Unfortunately, the transformation from bullied basketball player to popular party-goer comes with consequences. Though she now eats in the cafeteria instead of the janitor's closet, Lucy quits the basketball team, her grades suffer, and her relationship with her parents slips from non-existent to hostile.

This is what makes EFFORTLESS such a great read. Though Lucy is cheated on, embarrassed by her parents, and used by a manipulative best friend, her anger and resentment is overcome by a new love, new friends, and a new relationship with a mother who could never show just how much her daughter meant to her.

Lizzy Charles writes with pure emotion, and Lucy's character experiences what could happen to any high school girl. The narrative is powerful, heart-felt, and lovely. I cannot recommend this book enough.

Effortless With You is the perfect title for a book that is effortless to read. Definitely a great summer read, this romantic, sweet YA novel is perfect for teens (or older YA book lovers) who want to sit back, relax and enjoy a nice light read.

The narrator has just enough spunk to keep your flicking the pages, but a soft side to make you linger, basking in the feelings of teen love, friendship and lazy summer days. Balanced with a few darker spots in the plot, Effortless With You is a well-crafted, enjoyable novel definitely worth keeping on your bookshelf. :-)

Great Book ! Always reading it to brush up

I like to first say that my brother bought this book, as I am an online dater myself. I couldn't help but to pick the book up and read it! Yes, I know it say's "Online dating, step by step for men" but I wanted to read and view the other gender's side of dating.. Oh, boy was I intrigued and also couldn't help but find it very insightful for me too.. I read the entire book and found it to be humorous and found truth to what the author was writing about in his dating lifetime. I am glad there is a man out there trying to help the helpless men who think that things that men say or do are the right things to land a woman. I think that both male and female should pick up this book at one time, we can all learn the lessons of the "do's" and "dont's"..
