Believe it or not

Though not sold on faith, I loved this book. Convinced or not, you must accept authors premises that neither believers nor unbelievers are dumb. All deserve respect. Also, scientific arguments are not so ironclad - in some ways, creationism is more "elegant". And, ultimately, faith or disbelief come down to a choice.
Very credible and engaging book. Great personal particulars , logical arguments and humanistic values recognized.

Not a bad start.

The initial work holds promise, but some reflection and revision is needed in order to pull this book up to its full potential. The writing lacks connection between the stories, quotes, and narrative. Readers may feel pulled in one direction or the other without fully understanding the reasoning behind the journey. The author also needs to distill a particular purpose behind the work. Are we to simply have faith or not? Or is it possible that God is present in the little moments and that without God, the events told in the text would have arrived at a different outcome? The author mentions dealing with life and death in his own life, yet never fully discusses how he handled or felt about such experiences. I believe the author needs to reflect on what purpose the work is to serve, then find the way of serving it. However, when one attempts to answer too many questions at once, the answers often lack substance. Lastly, the text needs to clarify the terminology or perspective used within the work in order to assure readers can fully participate in the logic and rationale of the text.

Peppered with quotes from scientists and theologians, Proof of Divine is Andrew Murtagh's record of his faith journey and the intellectual concepts he wrestled with along the way, including evolution, whether morality without God is possible, and the historicity of the Bible. At the end of it all, Murtagh realizes that God can be neither proven nor disproven, but it is still possible to make an educated choice as to whether or not to believe. "But on the question of life's meaning, there will always be unknowns as there is a leap of faith in truly believing in anything," writes Murtagh. "For something in which there is no proof, it all amounts to a decision: will we consider the miraculous? For a number of reasons, I have considered the miraculous."
