About the Author
Jordan Ancel is a former actor who’s had the privilege of being mentored by Mike Nichols and the late-great Paul Sills. He was a founding member of the award-winning Off-Broadway theater company, The Greenwich House Theater Company, in The West Village of NYC, whose members included (the late) Academy Award-Winning Kim Hunter. He also achieved great success in commercials, having done major campaigns for Hertz, American Express (with Jerry Seinfeld), and Chrysler, to name only a few. After moving to Los Angeles in 1995, Jordan wrote and produced the award-winning short film, 875, in London. He then went on to become a top print casting director for major advertising campaigns including Fuji, Boost Mobile, Sony, and AT&T. With over 20 years in the entertainment indusrty, Jordan’s had the privilege of getting to know some of Hollywood‘s top professionals. He has interviewed many of them for this book to provide actors at any level valuable and useful advice and information so they may become more successful in their pursuit of their dreams. Just for fun, in 2011, Jordan directed the award-winning parody music video, “Monday”, and soon followed with a Star Wars parody, “Episode VII: A New Conflict.” Because Jordan knows first-hand how hard it is for actors to break into the industry, he wrote this book to help those pursuing the dream by providing them with a candid look at how it works, from the experts’ and decision makers’ perspectives. Now, as a successful serial-entrepreneur and business consultant living with his wife and dog in Los Angeles, Jordan is in the process of launching an innovative new internet company, and is also a founding member of Game Nation, a new 10,000 acre theme park opening in Florida which will revolutionize theme parks world-wide.

Every actor needs this book

"How do I get an agent?" "What should my manager be doing?" "Why aren't auditions working for me?" These are the kind of legitimate questions actors ask all the time. "Behind the Lines" is a terrific book because it has the answers, written in clear language and directly from the decision-makers actors care about.
As a producer, actors ask me for advice all the time, and until now, I haven't been able to recommend a great resource to them. That changes with this book. The author, who's been an actor himself and is now a successful entrepreneur with two decades' experience in the entertainment industry, has sought out the people actors need to talk to, asked them all the tough questions, and shares them in this book. He also offers tons of practical advice and career guidance, with an emphasis on how you can take responsibility for your career and be the captain of your destiny. Whether you are a newcomer to professional acting, or have been doing it for years, this book has valuable, up-to-date information you can put to use immediately.

How to REALLY achieve an acting career.

Jordan Ancel's book is an incredibly valuable resource filled with genuine and genuinely entertaining anecdotes from a broad, knowledgeable base of respected industry professionals who pull no punches about the realities of an acting career.
His detailed interviews - and own humility laced experiences as a former working actor - provide decades worth of practical career advice.
For all of the actors out there who are starting out, been around for a bit, or parents who are curious about getting their kids in showbiz, I can't recommend his book enough.

A Book That Hits The Mark

Every once in a while a book comes along that is not only an entertaining read, but an informative one. The kind of book that makes you feel smarter for having read it. The kind of book that makes you say, "Wow. That was money well spent."
This is that book.
I highly recommend "Behind the Lines" to both seasoned professionals looking to branch out, and newbies looking to break into the highly competitive field of acting. As a writer with a background in acting, I know, first-hand, how overwhelming the business can be. There is so much to learn. Mr. Ancel's book will prove to be an invaluable tool for anyone attempting to navigate the tricky business of professional acting without losing their minds. From information on agents and managers, to interviews with prominent industry insiders and working actors, and honest (often amusing) personal anecdotes about his own experiences in both NYC and LA, this book covers it all. It's fun, insightful, and easy to read (as long as you know the Alphabet). So, if you're an actor... or you just play one on TV... or you know someone who wants to be an actor... or just play one on TV... treat yourself to a great read that could change the path of your career immeasurably.
