THIS BOOK SAVED ME & MY BABY'S LIFE!(August 2013) + UPDATE (February 2014)
By love design
February 2014 UPDATE to my August 2013 review at the bottom of this post!
DISCLAIMER: I didn't buy my book on Amazon. I got my book direct from author Erika Herman's website earlier this year, and worked with her privately. But I HAVE to share my experience of EAT LIKE A FATASS, LOOK LIKE A GODDESS with the Amazon community because it was so life-changing and live-saving--for me and my unborn baby.
I'm 30, 5'3″, active, normally weigh in at a muscular 113 lb, and have no history of disease. So I was obviously shocked when I got pregnant and developed gestational diabetes last year (I was 29 at the time). I had always believed I ate a healthy, well-rounded diet, and according to national Dietary Guidelines I was. But the way I was eating wasn't stabilizing my condition. Being a health-conscious person, and expectant mother, I wasted no time and snagged EAT LIKE A FATASS, LOOK LIKE A GODDESS: THE UNTOLD STORY OF HEALTHY FOODS, and had the good fortune to work with Erika Herman to set everything straight in my diet and my health.
Now, my medical tests show I'm stable. The best part is that I get to eat foods I had thought were off-limits, and I enjoy my food in a way I hadn't before, knowing it's not only delicious, but good for both me and my baby. Foods high in fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, salt, and animal foods are a regular part of my diet now (the word "diet" isn't even an appropriate word--"fantasy" is more like it!). Thank you, Erika, for opening my eyes, satisfying my belly with food I love to eat, and ensuring the health of baby and mommy.
UPDATE (FEBRUARY 2014):
I gave birth 5 months ago (my first testimonial was first published on the official Eat Like a Fatass Look Like a Goddess website in August 2013, though I posted it to Amazon in November). I've continued to eat THE GODDESS LIFESTYLE way, and not only do my doctors say my diabetic condition is gone, but in just 4 weeks post-birth I got back down to my pre-baby weight--and I've kept the weight off with no fuss. I feel energetic, satisfied, free from cravings, and my digestion is off-the-hook-fantastic.
I'm feelin' the love for THE GODDESS LIFESTYLE. I'm in this for life. Thank you, Erika!

An insightful one-of-a-kind one-stop shop for all your nutrition and health questions!
By Mr. Man
Yes, I'm a man, but I read this book--and loved it! It really is for everyone.
It is written in an accessible way, but make no mistake this book is for people who really think--or those who are ready to start thinking critically--about controversial topics like nutrition.
I'm very familiar with many dietary trends (both fad and more well-researched varieties). So I'm the first to tell anyone how important it is that nutrition expert authors "in the know," like the author of this book, make information accessible and attractive to as many people as possible. This author has achieved this feat in a unique way.
Even for people who are "in the know," this book is insightful. While it's important to break down the science-y stuff for newbies and keep it interesting veterans such as myself, it's clear this author knows most people have psychological and ideological blocks to opening up to this new information (which she says in her book). This is a really important piece of the puzzle I've found most experts in this arena neglect. If we want to revolutionize mainstream culture, and our food system, we need more experts who are able to get inside the heads of mainstream culture and explode it from the inside out. This author does that with flying colors.
It's also clear the author knows most people don't know how to decipher really solid research from more wobbly research. That's where I find the value of the book can be lost on some people. Every book featuring valuable information that's published can be like another voice shouting in the crowd. This book doesn't need to shout because it makes enough of a splash through innovation and an attractive presentation that it bypasses a lot of the obstacles other books face.
Among the unique insights I loved in this book was Chapter 7, which just explodes commonly held ideas about ethics, vegetarianism, veganism, and omnivorism. Few books that tackle the unavoidable human need for animal foods 'go there' with this kind of discussion. This chapter also explains how our individual animal-food friendly nutrition practices are so vital for big-picture ecological health. The presentation of these discussions signal a truly critical thinker is behind it. As you read chapter 7 you realize you are in thoughtful, careful, adept hands.
I also have no idea what one of the negative reviewers meant about a Chapter 13--there are only 9 chapters in the book! Sometimes I wonder if people actually read books they review on here.
It's also easy to fall into the trap of thinking that this book is a Paleo book. It's not.
Lastly, it's rare to find all this provocative, solidly-researched information in ONE SINGLE book. I laughed when I read one of the negative reviews on this book saying that it's "nothing new"--not only does this fail to realize that you'd have to go searching through at least ten different books to execute what this book does so masterfully, but this kind of review highlights the main problem with the American mindset: we want innovation, which only leads us to feed disingenuous unscientific costly beasts. I hate to break it to you, but the human body doesn't need some new fad every five minutes. That's what got our culture into this mess. The human body needs a comprehensive and compassionate defense of what we most need to learn and practice, and it needs that to be executed in an innovative way. This book aces that department like few I've come across.
The research in this book is innovative to most people who read it, and those who are familiar with this research will still find immense value in it. Read it once, refer to it for years to come. It's been a reference guide for me for months now since I bought it.

An excellent review of nutritional science for everyone
By Noz
For what it's worth, I am a guy. I was intrigued by the multitude of reference in the free sample of the book, which you can get at the book's official website, so I bought it. The author has created a remarkable overview of the tremendous strain between the economic realities and perversions of modern agriculture and the complex inner workings of the human body. The book is worth a read even if you are not interested in changing your diet - it is a fascinating exposition of our society's struggle between financial incentives of large corporations and the health care system. Despite being MOSTLY populated by people with the best intentions, the health care system has struggled to keep its message clear and consistent with scientific findings due to the overwhelming financial pressure of the agro-lobby. Of course the book is an excellent guide to dietary changes but it is so much more than that. Check it out.
