Review
"As a long-time lover of C. S. Lewis and the world of Narnia, I have read countless books about both. Joe Rigney's Live Like a Narnian is one of the best. It overflows with an authentic sense of Narnian brightness, wisdom, and wonder. Rigney seems equally at home with Lewis's fiction and nonfiction. He draws them together beautifully, with truth and imagination. I highly recommend this delightful book!" -- Randy Alcorn, author, Heaven and If God Is Good
"Joe Rigney is a writer who really knows how to love something. I am glad that he loves Narnia." -- Douglas Wilson, author, What I Learned in Narnia and Father Hunger
"The immediate effect of Live Like a Narnian: I want to. Written with a fun, lively, muscular style, it succeeds both as a work of popular literary criticism and as a readable call to follow Aslan all the way to the end." -- Owen Strachan, author, Risky Gospel: Abandon Fear and Build Something Awesome
"This book is stuffed full of the must-share Narnian "Aha!" moments that keep you turning just one more page. Even the moments you've only whispered to yourself about. I'm betting that Live Like a Narnian will prove to be a trusted companion to future Narnians who will read and re-read the Chronicles for generations." -- Gloria Furman, author, Glimpses of Grace, daughter of Eve, and a queen of Narnia
"Live Like a Narnian has the quality that all good writing strives for: it is both insightful and delightful. Joe Rigney captures not only the power and poignancy of C. S. Lewis's beloved Narnia series, but also its fun and merriment." -- Devin Brown, author, A Life Observed: A Spiritual Biography of C. S. Lewis
"I have long awaited a brief book that labors to excavate the major theological themes in Narnia in a simple and clear format, a book that calls on Lewis's non-fiction writings as a commentary to illuminate his Narnian stories, and most of all, a book about that bright gold creature more terrible and more beautiful than anything in all of Narnia and this world combined. The wait is over. Live Like a Narnian by Joe Rigney is a masterful achievement." -- Tony Reinke, author, Lit! A Christian Guide to Reading Books
From the Back Cover
Careful readers of the Chronicles of Narnia know that there is more to the stories than meets the eye. There are layers of meaning in these fairy tales, spiritual gold beneath these Narnian hills. Those who delight in Lewis's magical world love to journey further up and further in, returning to Narnia again and again so that the same old stories can awaken our minds afresh to the wonder and glory all around us. But just how are these stories meant to change us? When we tumble back out of the wardrobe, in what ways should we be different?
Drawing upon Lewis's other writings and the Chronicles themselves, Joe Rigney shows the intricate and sometimes subtle ways that Lewis intended his beloved fairy stories to shape our hearts and minds. In doing so, he commends Lewis's Chronicles as a fruitful part of Christian discipleship, so that in reading the Narnian stories, breathing Narnian air, and seeking to live like Narnians, we are wonderfully transformed into the image of Jesus Christ--the Great Lion and High King Above All Kings.

Concise, Insightful, Engaging, Worshipful!!
By DanielS
This book is intended for lovers of Narnia. If you find yourself in that camp, purchase a copy now! My own heart has resonated with and even longed for Narnia ever since I was first introduced to the Chronicles as a child. I've read them over and over again, even into adulthood, and have found that Aslan has in fact grown with me over the years. What I have found as I have grown in my faith is that my love for Aslan/Narnia has actually increased my love for Jesus and my desire for heaven. This new book by Joe Rigney has only added more kindling to that fire! Rigney masterfully gives the reader a tour of Narnia, from a unique Lewisian angle, that is not only insightful but worshipful. After the introduction, the chapters are concise and to the point, offering piercing jabs to awaken the reader's heart to the type of life he was intended for - the life of a Narnian. I close with this: Aslan once told Lucy that the reason she was brought into Narnia was that by knowing him in Narnia for a little while, she would know him better at home in England. In a similar way, "Live Like a Narnian" will help you get to know Aslan a little better in Narnia so that you might know Jesus a little better in life.
P.S. Rigney offers the reader the option to skip the introduction in the case that they might find it "overly technical and complicated." My own opinion: don't accept his offer! The introduction established a critical foundation for the book AND better yet, it left my heart soaring and eagerly anticipating what I would encounter in the rest of the book.

Thought provoking, convincing, convicting, and an overall joy to read
By Joel Aubrey
From the solid foundation he lays in the introduction and on throughout this book, Joe Rigney labors to show why fairy tales (specifically Narnian fairy tales) can and should play a vital role in our sanctification as Christian disciples of Jesus. His thesis is that the Narnian stories display through imaginative fiction and fairy tale the way that the world, the real world, really is, and that if we breathe the air of Narnia long enough, we will develop the patterns of thought and affection that leave us well prepared to embrace the True, the Good, and the Beautiful when we encounter them in our world. That this was Lewis's intention in crafting these tales is clear, for Aslan himself says to Lucy on one occasion, "this was the very reason you were brought into Narnia, that by knowing me here for a little, you might know me better there." To this end, Rigney labors to show us the value which the clear Narnian air has for Christian discipleship in the world in which we live.
This book was thought provoking, convincing, convicting, and an overall joy to read. Readers will no doubt resonate more with some of the chapters (listed below) than others, yet there is something here to be gleaned for all lovers of Narnia.

"Breathing Narnian Air"
By Keith K
To "Breathe Narnian air" is a recurring phrase in Rigney's little book. Turns out, it's something I've always loved to do - I just called it "reading." As a kid I read them over and over again, and still do, when I get the chance. I suspect that they may actually be magical. I received Joe's book late at night a couple of weeks ago. My workload was overwhelming and I had the alarm set early. I made the mistake of reading the first couple pages. Eighty pages later, I came back through the wardrobe to find (much to my chagrin) that time does in fact pass in the 'real world' while in Narnia.
Joe has done a remarkable job of pumping this amazing book chock-full of the same stuff that Lewis did--same characters, same virtues, same quality. And I love it.
It's more than gripping, though. Lewis' series changes us without our knowing why or how--but Joe has a remarkable way of putting his finger on the process itself, and drawing very practical applications out of the original works. How does Peter-like chivalry look like in a world without Witch-serving wolves, King Miraz, or Giant-wars in the North? (NOTE: Don't even think about reading this book before the series--Joe would have your head.)
Rigney really is a fantastic communicator. Everything he touches comes to life...but he (by self-admission) is only skipping a stone across Narnian landscape. In his epilogue he has compiled a list of other Narnian destinations--lands of Lewis to be explored and learned from. Joe has done us a great service with his book, but he's only begun a grand hunt for the White Stag--and I look forward to chasing him down myself. I invite you to come, drink some of that marvelous water at the World's edge, and let your eyes grow ever stronger; because after this is Aslan's country.
