Donald Panther-Yates has taught at the University of Notre Dame, St. John's University, Native American Educational Services College and other schools. His most recent publications are Old World Roots of the Cherokee and The Early Jews and Muslims of England and Wales (with Elizabeth C. Hirschman). A former resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico, he now lives in Phoenix.

There are many curiosities of antiquity unburied and "found", all across America.. Donald Panther-Yates, though, brings you his personal discovery of some of the ancient wonders of the Southwest. In particular he covers the Los Lunas Decalogue Stone, The Metcalf Stone, The Bat Creek Stone. In addition he takes us on a hike through Chaco Canyon, Bandelier National Monument, Quetzalcoatl's Cave and the mystery Los Lunas Decalogue stone.
The Los Lunas Decalogue stone is in a secret hidden place in the desert of New Mexico. Finding it is word of mouth, a secret seriously guarded and revealed to the earnest seeker.
What is it? How did it get there? Who wrote these words of wisdom and when?

The Stone is actually a boulder with a smooth rockface that is guarded by an acacia tree. A Cohen Priest descendant as proven by a Santa Fe DNA project [.page 12 cites reference to Cohen and DNAProject..] took the author him and his wife there one day. This Project shows there are many Mestizo Jewish descendants in the West. On the stone is an ancient writing tested to have been about 1000 BCE. Who could have written that ancient Hebrew script during an age when only local "Indians" were in the New World? Page 12 gives clues to that answer; "The facts pouring in from every side bring us to the.. general conclusion that ancient American civilization was stimulated by transoceanic contacts from the east and west, among them contacts with the Mediterranean were especially creative.
The query this foments is "Jewish Indian"? How is that researched? This quest takes Yates "on a rough-and tumble sabbatical through the obscurities of Crypto-Judaism, Indian Mascots, the theory of the Indian descent from the lost tribes of Israel, Freemasonry, the Spanish Inquisition, the Watauga Settlements in Tennessee and the history of the Confederacy.
I found myself on a similar path searching for Cherokee and Choctaw Ancestors of my parents. Add to that Southeast Indian research in the settlements of the Gulf South's colonial history with France and Spain. Much can be found, much has been destroyed, obscured and lost. However, recently some Spanish archival material has become available at LDS Family History Center. I found much locally done by Mobile Researchers such as Colonial History of Mobile by Peter Hamilton. This book found online covers a lot of coastal Indian History with the French and the Indian Trade. Reading that leaves one wondering who were they trading with. The Indians and traders overcame communication issues using
A linga-franca developed called the Mobilian Jargon.
Cushman's History of the Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Natchez gives more insight into Trade and the Mississippi Valley Indian Tribes. I also persevered through James Adair's History of the American Indians Tome. Like Yates, I found these authors likened the Indians to the Lost Tribes of Israel noted by their cultural practices and "looks". After reading those books, I wondered what else I could find. Other than records of contemporary documents through translations of correspondence of Bienville with the King of France and the Spanish Translated Archives I didn't know where to look next. I found reading Donald Panther-Yates writings more info to be found.
Yates uncovered that Spanish and Portuguese Jews emigrated to the New World and Latin America fearing retribution from the Holy Office in the 16th to 18th Century. How long they had been coming had for sure been with Portugal to Brazil in South America by 1500. In Florida with the Spanish in 1540, and some earlier settlements in Florida by the French prior to that.
The earliest known Spanish exploration of the Gulf Coast was 1519. So, how did a Jewish Hebrew Ancient Script get on a rock in the present day New Mexico desert?
Yates takes us into the explorations of the Phoenicians. The people who brought us writing, to our shores prior to 1,000. Trading with the Indians along with the Romans.
There were others such as Celts, lesser known folks deemed Atalans and Cutans. There are very Ancient visitors to our shores. He cites references that I didn't know about and look forward to reading.
