Keep your religious nonsense out of your books

Think about this: you're reading a book about writing, and every so often, the author decided to moralise at you: what would Jesus do, abortion is wrong, and more God/church/bible quote nonsense.
I'm sorry.
I bought a book about writing CHARACTER, not to have juvenile religious beliefs shoved down my throat.
Here's a tip: WRITE ABOUT WRITING.
No one wants to know about your religious delusions.

Real advice for struggling characters

I don't know how many times I've wished for this exact book. Recognizing that something is missing in my writing but not knowing where to turn has been frustrating. Well, Angela Hunt has provided the solution! I read and applied Volume 1, The Plot Skeleton, all in one morning. Applying Extraordinary Characters is going to take longer but I now have more ideas and excitement about my current project than I ever dreamed possible.
Thank you, Angela Hunt! I hope many more such volumes are in the pipeline.

This book is amazing -- highly recommended!

I have not yet finished the whole book but I've already gotten so much out of it. Her "quick" method of coming up with characters was a revelation for me. I've also read Create a Character Clinic by Holly Lisle (which is also very helpful) but this helped me add the extra depth I felt my characters were lacking. I am not a particularly social person, so I struggle coming up with believable characters. Hunt's method really works well, better than I would have thought when I read how to do it. I felt like what I had before I read her book was a quick character sketch, somewhat vague, and her method was like waving a magic wand that brought them to life and then they sat and told me about themselves! They came to life, I could see how they would interact, and what they told me confirmed what I already knew about them, even though I came up with my original sketches before I read Hunt's book.
I absolutely love books, movies and TV shows where the characters are well-drawn and where the interaction of the characters creates an extra layer to the plot. But I was afraid I wouldn't be able to create characters that wouldn't seem very MarySue-ish, not because they were me, but because they wouldn't have believable flaws or other nuances. I think this book has helped a great deal. I am not a published writer yet (not of fiction, anyway) so you just have to take my word that this is a great method to use to create characters.
