This satirical memoir is based upon real life experiences as they occurred, with all the attendant embarrassments connected therein. Although the story may be real, not all of the characters may be so.. I have taken the liberty of embellishing upon the theme at certain times to accommodate the story, for satirical reasons, yet sadly enough much of the story is all too real. The characters in this memoir are mostly real, however, I have altered their names when it was in their best interest, or merely used their first name, so they know who they are. I have also used real names of certain photographers whom continue their long held friendship with me, or who’s photographic work merits use of their real names, which I noted in the story. My story begins when I was nine, dreaming about the environs of a very special tree house, and the unknown magic of shared innocence unfolding behind those hallowed walls. This, was but the beginning of a lifelong search for deeper meanings to things, and how funny that is upon hindsight. There is always an interesting twist to every story of growing up. Some childhoods have a few more twists than others and that tends to make them good fodder for ridicule, or satirical memoirs. The story in this book is mine, and I make no apologies for having fun with it. This story is about starting out clueless in life and the interesting things people will do with you when you let them, or encourage it. Fortunately, being clueless isn’t fatal. Unfortunately, it takes a lifetime to figure it out. The story includes life as a single parent, and Little Mother with the Iron Fist, to party life in Phoenix, riding motorcycles and learning the perfect Marlon Brando dismount. In the spirit of humorous tales, I believe this story will please.

About the Author
Grant Handgis was born in Marietta, Georgia, in 1948. The front of the baby-boom curve, the last to realize it. The author grew up as an Air Force brat, realizing ever new and exciting locations and cultures, which assisted directly in shaping the author's interesting sense of humor. His first publication came at age twelve when one of his anecdotes was published in Boy's Life. After a tour of duty in the military he married and had children. Then a divorce and a life as a single parent, which makes extremely rich material for books. After a thirty year career in photography, which happened to be the author's vocation, he is currently entertaining his avocation of writing. The author has completed six books. More books are on the way.

Author Grant Handgis provides a spontaneous and utterly entertaining autobiography that is sure to delight.

Grant's wild, rambunctious and very funny autobiography begins at age 9 in the 4th grade, and sweet "Cynthia" is his first love. From there, things move along at a rapid, unpredictable and often hilarious pace. Grant's story is a constant reminder that the combination of honesty and humor are guaranteed to entertain. Who ever said an author can't be funny and wise? There is a kind of Zen wisdom found throughout this autobiography.
I share with this author the fact that we are both Vietnam Veterans: He served in our beloved Marine Corps; I served as a Navy officer in the Medical Service Corps -- attached to the 1st Marine Division. So this autobiography describes some heartfelt and heart-wrenching events as well as plenty of belly laughs.
Along the way, the reader will meet some unforgettable characters, like "Harry." Of course, the most interesting character of all is the author!
I highly recommend buying and reading this most entertaining book.

Witty and Poignant

I’m a recent fan of memoirs, impressed by the novelists’ courage to invite strangers into their inner world, their ability to discern the hidden pearls from the humdrum of ordinary life. In I Have Mine…Show Me Yours, Grant Handgis takes the reader on a beautifully written journey, starting with the wonder years of figuring life out, the navigation of family and friendship, the dazzle of first wheels, and awkwardness of young love. Though Handgis has written between the lines of painful experiences that propelled him into the broader perspective of adulthood—a stint in Nam, a failed marriage, and the temporary loss of his children—the narrative bounds with humor and honest reflection on a state of cluelessness that is both relatable and rather endearing.
The middle third of the memoir covers the figurative and literal “road trip” of sudden bachelorhood when his ex-wife absconds with the “short ones.” Just as abruptly, the “short ones” return and Handgis offers the reader a poignant and comical perspective on the trials and rewards of single parenthood including culinary disasters, a feline face-off, dating hurdles, and a dose of teenage angst regarding their father’s apparent lack of coolness. The final part of the narrative details his foray into entrepreneurship; the enthusiasm, inspiration and ongoing naiveté, the wounds (not all self-inflicted) as ventures end, the colorful characters, and friendships found and lost. The very end rambles a bit but not enough to dampen my zeal. I look forward to reading the continuation of his story in his next novel, Waking up Naked.

I loved this book and I love the way Grant writes. You can tell from the memories he calls and how he describes them what a deep thoughtful person he is. I'll bet he is a great guy to know. I recommend this book for great summer reading.
